The Perfect Summer Day by the Pool

Peace, greenery, clean water and time just for yourself

Summer has its own rhythm. Often fast, loud and full of activity – which is precisely why more and more people want to spend at least a few summer days differently. In peace, without rushing and without intense stimulation. Somewhere where water is not merely a source of refreshment, but part of a complete experience; where nature is not just a backdrop, but a companion; and where care for well-being is woven into every detail.

You can experience a summer day like this at the swimming facilities of Terme Krka.

Surrounded by Nature and Silence

Terme Dolenjske Toplice and Terme Šmarješke Toplice are located in the green heart of the Dolenjska region, where simply arriving already means stepping away from the pace of everyday life. The gently rolling landscape, surrounded by forests, embraces visitors with a sense of calm. There is no loud entertainment or constant programme of organised activities at their swimming facilities – here, silence is given the most space.

Sun loungers in the shade of trees, well-maintained lawns and thoughtfully designed poolside areas create the feeling that every corner is intended for relaxation. The water in the pools is not meant for competition or noisy excitement, but for swimming, simply floating and allowing your breathing to slow down.

This feeling is even more pronounced at Hotel Šport in Otočec, where swimming becomes an almost intimate experience. The proximity of the forest and meadow, together with the smaller capacity of the pool area, creates a welcoming retreat for those seeking a genuine escape.

At the other end of Slovenia, on the coast, Talaso Strunjan offers a different yet similarly calming experience. The view of the salt pans, the scent of the sea and the mineral-rich air all help the body and mind relax naturally. The pools filled with heated seawater are an extension of the natural surroundings, rather than merely a place for swimming.

When Cleanliness Is Not Taken for Granted

Relaxation is impossible without trust. Trust in the quality of the bathing water is one of the main reasons visitors are happy to return.

Pool management involves many different aspects – technical, organisational, hygienic and safety-related – which makes it a demanding task. For this reason, Terme Krka has devoted particular attention to this area for decades. Strict legislation forms the foundation, but Terme Krka’s practices go even further, incorporating additional internal standards, guidelines and controls that exceed the minimum requirements.

At the thermal spa resorts in the Dolenjska region, the water comes from deep underground boreholes, some of which extend several hundred metres below the surface. In Strunjan, the pools are filled with seawater from the Bay of Strunjan. Regardless of its source, however, the water is always thoroughly treated and purified before entering any of the pools.

The purification process takes place in large filtration systems containing quartz sand, which removes mechanical impurities. Filtration runs continuously, every day of the year. But this is only the first step. At the same time, the water is disinfected and its pH level is regulated by a computer-controlled system, ensuring the microbiological quality and safety of the pool water.

DID YOU KNOW?

The pool water at Terme Krka is filtered continuously – 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The entire system is largely automated, but it is never left solely to technology. Qualified staff regularly monitor the parameters, carry out inspections and ensure that everything operates without deviations. At the slightest irregularity, the system automatically issues an alert or even temporarily stops the process.

Additional safety is provided through independent monitoring by the National Laboratory of Health, Environment and Food, which takes unannounced water samples several times a month. The analysis results are always available to visitors, ensuring complete transparency.

Visitors can check the results of the latest bathing-water quality measurements at the pool reception at any time.

What Remains Hidden from View

When relaxing by the pool, we rarely consider that a large part of the swimming facility is not visible at all. These are the technical areas where filtration, water treatment and monitoring take place, accounting for more than one third of the total value of the pool complexes.

Far from view, processes run continuously in these areas to provide bathers with a carefree experience. Without them, there would be no crystal-clear water, stable conditions or safe environment.

The same level of care applies to the handling of water after it has been used in the pools. At Terme Krka, all wastewater from the swimming facilities is carefully treated in special neutralisation tanks, where impurities, disinfectants and all other substances are removed. Once purified and appropriately cooled, the water is returned to the natural environment. These procedures are also regularly monitored by professional institutions, as compliance with regulations is essential for responsible operation and for retaining the necessary permits.

Small Rituals, a Big Impact

A safe bathing experience is also supported by seemingly small yet important rituals. One of these is the mandatory passage through water barriers before entering the pool. This is important for maintaining hygiene, as it marks the transition from the “unclean” to the “clean” area of the swimming facility.

There are also lifeguards, who ensure safety and are often the first point of contact for visitors. Their presence creates a sense of trust and calm.

Clearly displayed pool rules do not restrict visitors, but create the conditions for everyone to enjoy the facilities together in a considerate and pleasant way. This is why uncontrolled rushing has no place at Terme Krka. Instead, there is room for peace, mutual respect and well-being.

The Beneficial Power of Water

Swimming in the pools of Terme Krka is an enjoyable summer activity with numerous beneficial effects.

With its warmth and mineral composition, thermal water relaxes the muscles, improves circulation and supports the body’s natural detoxification processes. Its slightly alkaline pH level contributes to maintaining the body’s balance, while the warmth reduces tension and helps relieve pain.

The seawater in Strunjan offers additional benefits. It is rich in minerals and trace elements that have a positive effect on the skin, respiratory system and general well-being. Combined with the sea air, these effects are further enhanced, as the body also absorbs beneficial substances through breathing.

DID YOU KNOW?

Seawater has a positive effect on the skin and general well-being because it contains minerals that are rarely found elsewhere.

The Luxury of Simplicity

Perhaps the greatest distinction of the swimming facilities of Terme Krka is that none of them tries to be everything to everyone. They do not compete through noise, but through tranquillity. They do not offer constant stimulation, but aim to be places where people do not need to escape from sensory overload.

This is a form of luxury that we value more and more today – time without rushing, water without worries and space without noise.

A summer day at Terme Krka is therefore about more than swimming and lying on a towel. It is an experience of balance between body and mind, people and nature, movement and stillness.

And this is precisely where the true value of a day at the thermal spa lies.

DID YOU KNOW?

All swimming facilities of Terme Krka also offer a varied, high-quality selection of food and beverages to suit different tastes. Refreshing drinks, light snacks and delicious meals make a day by the water even more enjoyable.
